Call for Proposals - 3rd Annual Access and Opportunity Summit

Bluegrass Community and Technical College Office of Hispanic Outreach and Services and Kentucky State University Land Grant’s Hispanic Initiative are proud to announce:
A CALL FOR PROPOSALS
3rd Annual Access and Opportunity Summit
“Empowering Latino Student Success through Action and Multicultural Partnerships”


November 1st-2nd, 2007
Lexington, KY Specific location TBA

Deadline for submitting proposals: July 7th, 2007


This is a call for workshop proposals on best practices, curriculum models, outreach strategies, research, grassroots programming and success stories for implementing community-based educational programs and initiatives that promote the success and empowerment of Latino and multi-cultural students through action and/or collaborative community partnerships.

The Access and Opportunity Summit is designed for administrators, faculty, staff and students from private and public universities in the areas of Diversity, Multicultural Affairs, Student Affairs, First Year Experience Programs, Student Development and Student Activities; K-12 educators; community outreach program developers; social services professionals; and anyone wanting to support student access to and success in higher education is invited to present and attend.

Objectives:
1. Highlight best practices, curriculum models, research, outreach strategies, grassroots programming and success stories for implementing community-based educational programs and initiatives that promote the success and empowerment of Latino and multi-cultural students through action and/or collaborative community partnerships.
2. To network and link resources to help integrate all students (Latino, immigrant and/or multi-cultural students) into programs, policies, practices and partnerships that create community involvement and greater educational attainment.
3. To create a space for participants to examine their conference experience through reflective dialogue sessions.
4. To motivate educators and community members to promote higher education to all students.

Suggested Themes include:
* Bridging cultural gaps through education
* Promoting equal educational access for all students
* Coalition building across cultural barriers
* Fostering and developing student leadership
* Team building relevant for multicultural students and/or diversity training
* Successful peer mentoring programs that promote student success
* Barriers to minority/immigrant student success and creative and innovative solutions
* Combating gang recruitment and activity through education and community partnerships

All abstracts are to be submitted electronically. Email abstracts to: erin.howard@kctcs.edu


All proposals will be peer-reviewed. Scoring will focus on how well proposals address the theme and objectives of the conference. More points will be given to workshops that appeal to a variety of different learning styles and that include interaction with participants.
